Oncology massage- the differences.
Being Oncology trained, I have received specialist training as to additonal contraindications such as platelet count, radiation, surgery sites and other potential side effects of cancer treatment. Not only this, but the profound emotional and physiological impact a cancer diagnosis can bring.
Each treatment is tailored to individual needs taking into consideration the type of cancer, and other factors such as pain, fatigue, nausea and sensitivities.
It is a common misconception that massage itself is contraindicated. Oncology massage uses a lighter more gentle touch with awareness to client needs, and aims to relax the central nervous system.
In massage, I am treating the individual and not the cancer. Primary focus is on relaxation and helping with cancer related symptoms such as relieving stress, reducing pain and promoting sense of well-being during what can be a difficult time.
Please note that both massage and reflexology are complementary therapies and should not be used as a replacement to conventional treatment. They are designed to work in harmony with conventional treatment.
I hold space for those facing an extremely challenging time, and adapt all treatments accordingly.
