Social events will serve more local people

A SUPPORT group has been established in Ross on Wye for those affected by cancer, writes Shanya Jacobs.

The Ross Cancer Support Group, based in the St Mary’s Church Hall, hold regular meeting and events inviting anyone affected by cancer, including, patients, carers, family and friends alike.

Established in 2016, the support group offers a non-discriminatory environment to support those affected. Its mission is to create a sense of community for those whose life has been impacted by cancer as well as ensuring that no-one in the town or local areas faces cancer alone.

The chairman, Paul Baker, having worked for many years in the cancer field was encouraged by the Macmillan Information Centre at Hereford County Hospital to set up a cancer support group to serve the local community.

About the author

I live in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, with my wonderful wife, Amanda, and our two amazing daughters, Molly and Daisy. In 2017, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer, and I am now living with stage 4. Alongside my journey, I volunteer with the Ross-on-Wye Cancer Support Group, helping others who face similar challenges. I’m passionate about the outdoors and adventure—I love cycling, camping, and listening to music. I believe deeply in the power of HOPE, that we should never give up, and that kindness and respect for one another can help us build a better world.
